Yesterday was a very very bad day for me, as it’s been a month since Mom passed away. I was in my room on my bed with Matthew, then all of a sudden I started crying again. He stopped playing, looked at me, patted my forehead and asked “Mommy alright?”. He was so sweet! I said “yes honey, Mommy just really misses Granny”. He repeated “Mommy miss Granny”, then gave me a hug. I still felt awful, but not so alone thanks to that hug. Thanks Baby Shmear! Mommy loves you!

Happy Birthday Baby Shmear!
February 12, 2006Well folks, we are now officially into the terrible twos. We held Matthew’s birthday party at an indoor playland, and he had a blast for the most part. However, he didn’t enjoy the big green tube slide, and it has now been labelled “the tunnel of terror”. I think he was fine the first time he went down with someone, but then he thought he’d try it all by himself and was in full-on meltdown before he reached the bottom. Then he tried again with his friend Alex, but got scared again at the top, and still bawled his eyes out despite me calling him from the bottom and telling him I was waiting for him. The third try he was just trying to follow Alex, who decided she was going up the slide again. He got as far as one foot on the bottom rung of the ladder, then back into hysterics! I guess when you’re not even 30 lbs, a huge, dark green tunnel surrounding you and seemingly going on for eternity with no familiar faces in sight is kinda scary. I however wouldn’t know since they don’t make tube slides big enough for Amazons!
He still doesn’t get opening presents. We even tried to get the unwrapping started for him, but he kept saying “noooo!” and trying to get away. Sheesh! I hope he gets over it before Christmas!
He did really well with his cake this year. Daddy lit the two candles on Matthew’s slice, we all sang “Happy Birthday” at the top of our lungs (and in my case, off-key), and he blew out the candles all by himself with only one breath. Woohoo! Then he sat there patiently til someone fetched him a fork. Good boy! Then he proceeded to hold the fork in one hand, and eat the cake with his other (forkless) hand!
Happy Birthday Baby Shmear! Hope you had a great day!
