Attitude adjustment required

July 31, 2005

Baby Shmear has developed an attitude of late. No matter what I do I get yelled at. I give him some milk, he doesn’t want milk, he wants ice-cream. I put him to bed, he doesn’t want to sleep, he wants to read a story. But not the storybook I chose, he wants a different one. I go to sit down to play with him and he doesn’t like the toy I pulled out to play with. Or he wants to play in a different room. I leave the room to do something and he runs after me screaming because I either didn’t ask permission to leave or I didn’t invite him. Urrrrgh! Or my favourite attitude: “I’m really really upset about something right now and you have to guess why”. I don’t know how to handle this little demon anymore. If I stay there to try to help him figure out what the problem is, he just screams. But if I leave the room til his hissy fit is over he goes into major meltdown until I come back. And the worst of it is, he only does this with me!!! Should I feel special or something? Maybe he’s just hit the terrible two’s early (my luck – I got a “gifted” child! Ha ha). Any advice is much appreciated cuz pretty soon I’m gonna run away from home!

You can’t fool me!

July 26, 2005

Matthew is a big fan of his blanket that his Granny (my Mom) made for him; whenever he sees it he starts giggling and smiling and runs for it as fast as he can. This morning I decided to wash “Dankie”, as he calls it, and thought I could throw it in the dryer when I got home from work and it’d be ready for bedtime. Well I stayed too long at Mom and Dad’s house and when I got home at 7:15 pm there was only 15 minutes left before his bedtime to dry this blanket. As if! So we were trying to keep him awake and occupied til the blanket dried. He wasn’t going to hold out so we though we’d substitute Dankie for a different one. No way was he going to accept this imposter blanket! He starts crying and choking and hyperventilating and screaming with tears streaming down his face. After trying the sippy cup/rocking chair/story bedtime routine and failing miserably, we decided to just put him to bed with the imposter and hopefully he’d fall asleep. He was not going to have anything to do with this other blanket! I covered him with it, he tossed it aside. I tucked it under his chin so he could cuddle with it, he yanked it off him and threw it aside. So I left him in his crib with it and and closed the door behind me. He kept screaming. I went downstairs to check on Dankie’s status and sure enough it was dry. I come upstairs from the laundry room to hear him still screaming. I open the door, show him Dankie, he giggles and smiles, I give it to him and lay him down in the crib, he puts his thumb in his mouth and sighs and says “m-hmmm”. I say goodnight and close the door. We haven’t heard a peep since!

Night night Baby Shmear!

New video of new trick

July 17, 2005

Check out the video peep show of what Matthew figured out how to do today. As written in Daddy’s blog, he can now climb up his highchair and sit down. Yes it’s dangerous, but it’s kinda funny too so I’m torn. Oh, and please excuse the mess of the house. We’re working on it.

Creepy picture on main page?

July 8, 2005

So my “best friend” commented today that Matthew’s picture on the main page creeped her out at first. She said it reminded her of that Christopher Reeve movie with the possessed kids who were very blonde and had weird eyes. The movie is “Village of the Damned” http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0114852/. I don’t agree, but I can kinda see the similarities. I still maintain it’s a beautiful picture though. What do you guys think?

BTW Miranda, I’m not offended. I just think you’re a nut and the only one in the world who would come up with this. Ha ha! I still love ya!

I’m one of his "peeps"

July 6, 2005

Ever since he learned to talk, when the phone would ring Matthew would stop what he was doing and say “Daddy!”. It’s always Daddy calling; never anyone else. Tonight I called from the car on my way home, and apparently when the phone rang Matthew said “Mama”. Woohoo! Finally getting some recognition here!
