Gasp! I keep wearing the same shirt!

June 28, 2005

Has anyone noticed as you go through the last few months’ pics that I’m wearing the same shirt in practically every shot of me? I’ll admit my wardrobe is a little sparse (sp?) right now but c’mon, this is a little much! I’m so embarrassed!

If you haven’t noticed, make a game of it and go over months 14, 15, and 16 and see if you can identify the shirt.

Opinions needed on backyard water fun

June 18, 2005

Ok, once again I’m seeking opinions here.

I can’t decide between a kiddie pool for Matthew or one of those cool sprinklers, like an octopus or something, to play in when it gets hot this summer.

Advantages to pool: splashing, get to play with water toys, fill the pool up once and play with water for weeks (no prep work needed).
Disadvantages to pool: free-standing water means breeding ground for mosquitoes (West Nile issues), having to dump the water out when it gets icky or near-icky, deciding between a blow-up pool or non-blow-up pool (which would require another opinion poll), I can’t fit in a kiddie pool, and my policy against wearing a bathing suit (if I manage to kick Matthew out of it so I can play for a bit).

Advantages to octopus (or similar) sprinkler: no free-standing water/mosquito issue, the water stays cold on a hot day, Matthew likes to run through our regular sprinkler already, waters the lawn at the same time, I can fit in my backyard so no issues there, bathing suit not necessary (although possibly a good idea), doesn’t take up a lot of room in the backyard, I’ve always wanted this kind of sprinkler but never had one when I was a kid (pout!).
Disadvantages to octopus (or similar) sprinkler: the water must run continuously and thus will hike our water bill tremendously, set-up and dismantling of sprinkler.

Which one should I pick?

Socks with sandals on my baby!!!!!!!

June 17, 2005

NOOOOOOOOOOO!!! I’m surrounded by relatives, including my own husband, who think it’s OK that Matthew wear socks with sandals. How can people not know that this is just not right? Do they not read fashion pages of People magazine or listen to the jokes on talk radio or anything? It’s one thing if you’re in your 70’s or 80’s, but I don’t want my baby starting off his life with these fashion faux-pas. He’ll have enough to deal with in therapy without this on the list!

Sandals are for days when it’s too hot to wear socks and regular shoes. If your feet need to breathe, that’s what the cutouts in the sandals are for; they let in the breezes and cool off your feet. To put socks on is counterproductive. Plus the cutouts let the dirt in and get the socks dirty, and then I have to try to get those darn stains out.

Folks out there, I need your help. My husband and family need to see that it’s not just me who thinks this is a no-no. Let’s take a poll and see what the survey says. If indeed it looks like socks and sandals are OK, then I’ll admit defeat and never speak of it again but I can’t see this happening.

I look forward to your comments and to my victory on this subject!!! Ha ha!

Yeah it’s been a while

June 15, 2005

OK so it’s been nearly a month since my last update. What can I say, I’m out LIVING my life. But since Daddy keeps giving me attitude for not updating, I’ll put what few thoughts I have in my head in writing.

Well for starters, it looks like I have the memory of a gnat. I tried to log onto this thing over and over and couldn’t remember how to do it. I scrolled up and down and up and down looking for the damn icon to click on. Finally after the 6th scroll I found it. And here we are.

So Matthew’s talking a lot more now, and he’s picking up new words each day. The other day he came up with “boo” after playing with his friend Avery, and “ow” after he hit his head and I said “ow, that must hurt”. Now everytime he bonks his head, he looks right at us and says “ow”. And tonight he learned our neighbour’s name is Bill. Only he pronounces it “bi-ooooooww”. OK, I don’t know how to spell phonetically so you’ll just have to imagine it in your own heads. Oh, and Grampa (my Dad) is “papa”.

He’s started crying when Daddy drops him off at the babysitter’s. I think it’s just because the last two times he’s gone there he’s been extremely tired and cranky. He’s like his Mommy; when we’re tired we’re both real bitches!

We should be getting a sandbox soon. Woohoo! Grampa (aka papa) is building us a box, and it would’ve been done by now but apparently 8 ft by 8 ft is too big for a sandbox. I dunno, I disagree but I’ve been out-voted so it’s gone back for modifications. I see nothing wrong with having a sandbox bigger than my king size bed. We have to fit Matthew, his friends Avery and Riley, and me in there (possibly Daddy too) along with 2 Tonka trucks, a few rakes and shovels, some of those plastic starfish and seashell moulds, and a few buckets. However with the new dimensions I have a feeling I’ve been ousted from the sandbox party. D’oh!

In unrelated news, Daddy is currently playing some training/tutorial video way too loud and it’s annoying the heck out of me. It’s so boring it would put me to sleep if it weren’t so darn loud!

OK that’s all I have to say. See, much ado about nothing. Now I’ve said my piece/peace, I’m going to bed (yes it’s only 9 pm, what of it?).

Nighty night!
